With so many things to do in Barcelona you could spend days and weeks and still not see it all. However, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go out of the city and explore it’s surrounding areas. There are many stunning places to see near the city and most of them are very accessible by train or car.

  • Figueres is filled with beautiful architecture. The first thing you should visit here is Castell de Sant Ferran which is an 18th century castle. Figueres is most known for Teatre Museu Dali. In the past it used to be a theatre, until the famous Dali changed it into an incredible attraction.

  • Girona and especially the old town that stands within is a maze of tight streets, crumbled houses and large churches while the Cathedral gases over it all. There are a couple of museums that you could visit in Girona. However, the best thing to do while there is to take a walk along the river Onyar.

  • Montserrat is the perfect getaway from the City’s agitation and a perfect day trip from Barcelona. You can take the cog wheel railway or the cable car to get up the mountain. At the top you will find the Monastery of Montserrat and everywhere you look there will be a different view. One more amazing than the other.

  • Vilanova i la Geltrú can be reached by a walk on the cliffs from Sitges which takes about one hour, but it is worth it. Once you get to Vilanovo I la Geltru you will be surprised to find a very peaceful place near the sea side. The beaches are filled with white sand and there are bars along the beach.

  • Sitges is a perfect little town for people that enjoy the sea and love the sun. The beaches which are closer to the town are usually filled with people. However, there are plenty of beaches to choose from.

GFDL, Tarragona

  • Tarragona is about as large as Sitges. If you are a fan of Roman architecture then Tarragona is the city for you. While in the city you should first visit Amfiteatre Roma and then Forum Provincial. While in the city, don’t forget to taste the delicious seafood in any of the restaurants.

  • Parc de Collserola is the perfect place to leave the loud city behind. This is the perfect spot for a bike ride, but you can walk as well but don’t forget to brag a good pair of walking shoes. While in the park you can also find many Restaurants where you can eat.

  • Montblanc is very accessible by train if you are in Barcelona. However, if you have access to a car that would be even better as you can admire the Cistercian Route. It is composed of three monasteries, Vallbona de les Monges, Poblet and Santes Creues. If you wish to visit the monasteries and Montblanc in the same day, make sure to wake up when the sun rises.
  • Costa Brava is one of the most beautiful areas of Spain and no list is complete without this stretch of coastline and mountains. Filled with epic lush pine forests and tropical turquoise waters, it spans all the way to the French border.
